Biography
Rick Ramirez, a devoted lifelong resident of our community, has consistently shown his commitment to serving and uplifting the City of Norwalk through his extensive public service career. With a focus on enhancing education, ensuring public safety, and improving the overall quality of life for all residents, Rick has established himself as a dedicated and effective leader.
Bringing over 30 years of invaluable experience in law enforcement, Rick offers a unique and comprehensive understanding of how state, county, and local governments collaborate to implement crucial public safety initiatives and youth crime prevention programs.
As a council member for the City of Norwalk, Rick has demonstrated his ability to unite people, fostering unity and collaboration to achieve significant programs and projects that benefit the community.
Elected to the City Council in 2003 and subsequently re-elected in 2007 and 2020, Rick has been a steadfast presence in local governance. He played a pivotal role during his mayoral tenure in 2007-2008, coinciding with the City's 50th anniversary, where he championed initiatives to enhance quality of life, bolster public safety and education, and promote economic stability.
In his most recent term as Mayor from 2022-2023, Rick spearheaded neighborhood revitalization programs, significantly increased funding for law enforcement and public safety, and took bold steps to address the homeless crisis. He introduced a commercial ordinance to hold vacant land owners accountable and implemented a Speed Hump ordinance to enhance neighborhood safety. Furthermore, Rick was instrumental in building the local economy through the inaugural "Meet the Mayor" program, creating a direct line of communication between the city's leadership and its residents and businesses.
Rick envisions a future for Norwalk grounded in advancing educational opportunities, an active law enforcement presence for safe neighborhoods, and excellence in serving residents for a better quality of life. He works tirelessly daily to ensure the community progresses towards these ideals.
His service extends beyond the council chambers, as he has actively participated in various regional and local boards and commissions, including the 1-5 Consortium, California Contract Cities, Southeast Area Animal Control, Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board, and as an Advisory Body City Council Liaison to the Public Safety and Social Services commissions.
He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Management and Public Administration from the University of La Verne, further solidifying his expertise and commitment to effective governance.
